History of the St Croix Sheep

The St Croix are haired sheep breed developed on the Caribbean island of St Croix, descended from a strain of West African haired sheep. The St Croix were imported in 1975 for research by Utah State University in Logan. Small flocks across the United States were established for experimental purposes. These sheep have interesting reproductive characteristics including early puberty, year-round breeding, the ability to breed back soon after lambing and a high lambing rate.
